Obituary of Miles Chappell

Another prisoner of hope set free. Miles Chappell born in the State of Virginia, Granville Co., June 5th, A. D. 1790, and departed this life March 24th, A. D. 1887; aged 96 years 9 months and 19 days. Bro. C., in his 22d year, was married to Miss Priscilla Parker, who was in her 14th year, and is still living. Bro. and Sister Chappell have had 14 children born to them, all of whom are living but three. His progeny perhaps numbers near 500. He served under Jackson in the war of 1812 and was in the memorable battle of New Orleans. He had been a member of the Baptist Church over 60 years, and was a man of unimpeachable character. He had been blind 11 years, and 4 years of that time he was unable to walk alone, but he was a patient sufferer. The funeral sermon was preached by the writer from Job 14 14: "If a man die shall he live again?" J. W. Rogers, Pastor. Julian, Ala., April 2d, 1887
