Elmer Roland Waldrop - Family & Relatives

Roland is like an uncle to me. At the age of about 4 he was left with my grandparents because as I understand it his parents could not feed all of their own children. It was during the time of the depression and with about 17 siblings it was a hard time. My grandparents, Walter and Annie Stephenson were asked if they could keep Roland and they said yes. He was never formally adopted but they raised him to adulthood. He told me he got to occasionally visit his grandmother but she was unable to keep him. Roland told me that my grandfather offered to include him in the will for the division of some farm land, but Roland told him no, because he had already done so much for him. When I talk with Roland he often reminds me of how grateful he is of my grandparents and how they were such "good people" and he is so grateful. All of my aunts and uncles are gone and Roland is the only living contact to their past. As of this writing, Roland is 92 and still doing well. I think I am the only member of the Stephenson family that is alive and still in contact with him. I am 79. He is surrounded by his own great family and I'm happy for him. They are taking very good care of him. I talk with him often by phone since I live in California and he lives in Arkansas.
