General Notes: Helen was living in an American church school when her family was taken by the Turks and thus avoided the massacre. Haigaz was told by his parents to run away and escape the massacree. He wandered for five years before being reunited with Helen and her husband. Haigaz came to America with his sister and her husband.

Apparently, Harry Kalpakian spelled the name Nishan, as determined by his written family tree, but his family on his tombstone spelled it Nechan. Since he left Turkey and moved to Romania, and later to France, the spelling could be French adapted.
