General Notes: Good Morning Jenk. It saddens me to inform you that my dad William Penn Yarbrough passed away Dec.10,2012. It was quite sudden and totally unexpected. He had taken a trip down to Laughlin for a few days, I had received a call from him on the 6th, telling me had been admitted to a Bullhead City, AZ hospital after he had broken his arm in the casino, he said that he was going to be transported to a Las Vegas hospital but that I was to go down to Laughlin to retrieve his car and personal items from his hotel room.Meanwhile, he hadn't been transported until later and I spoke to a nurse that informed me that it was his right upper arm and was serious enough to require surgery. I had to wait to the following day to go get his things, so when I arrived at the hotel I went to security to get an incident report and was told that they didn't have one. Security was the ones who put in in a wheelchair and took him to his room. When I returned to Las Vegas and went to the hospital, he was in a lot of pain and sick to his stomach ( he hadn't eaten for a couple of days). I asked him what happened and he told he that he didn't know if he was pushed or tripped and that it happened Tuesday night and security had taken him to his room and he called the front desk the next morning for the paramedics. He wanted me and my daughter to leave as he was tired ( he didn't care to have visitors), he called me the next day on Saturday and said he was going to be released and I was to pick him up, he would call me again to let me know when. I heard back from him at 5:30pm, he said the dr never came and he took a sleeping pill. So I waited on Sunday for his call (he never called) so I called his cell phone and room several times to no avail. I finally called the nurse and she said that he had some chest pains so they were going to run some tests. In the early evening I got a call from the ICU nurse stating that I needed to come to the hospital. When I arrived he was on life support, he had gone into cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, etc. He passed away on Monday. I was looking forward to his return from Laughlin so I could get more family history from him. His services will be December 31st. His obituary is online at bcfamort@gmail.com. William Penn Yarbrough 85 of Boulder City, NV passed away December 10, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV. Known as Penn to family and Bill to friends, he was born May 2, 1927 in Brownwood, TX to William Jenkins and Lottie Louise (Angelo) Yarbrough. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Carl Jenkins Gregory, niece Minnie Louise Gregory, sister Annie Lorene Gregory, brother Walter Jerome Yarbrough, former wife Patricia Ross Hull Yarbrough Livermore, step-son Francis (Frank) Leland Hull Jr., son-in-law(s) Trent Saylor and Jeroen Voorkamp, special cousin and friend Royce Wayne Yarbrough and longtime friend Floyd J. Berg and so many others.

The Yarbrough family moved to San Diego, Ca in the early 1940's. Penn graduated from La Jolla High School at the age of 15, he enlisted in the US Navy at 16. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he then enlisted in the US Air Force. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired from the military after completing 3 tours of duty in Vietnam.

He is survived by daughter Lynn Yarbrough, granddaughters Angelique (Jeffrey) Hill, Cheyenne Yarbrough and great grandson Brandon Reynoso all of Boulder City, NV. Step-son Patrick (Judith) Hull, step-daughters Merrileen (Edward) Simpson, Randy Harris, Virginia Voorkamp and Lisa Greiss. He was also known as Grandpa Penn to Brandi Hamilton, David Hull, Paul and Edward Simpson, Larisa and Kristi Hull , Roy Seppanen II, Anne and Jesse Voorkamp, Ranae Harris and Victoria Greiss. Other survivors are numerous cousins and friends located throughout California.

Jerry Tooke passed away on February 7, 2019. A time of fellowship and remembrance is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 76 years at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Lake Ridge Chapel.

Jerry Tooke was born on June 4, 1942, to Eugene and Lorell Hill Tooke in Matador, Texas. Jerry married Robena McCoy Tooke on July 15, 1966, in Flint Avenue Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Robena Tooke; children, De'Lila Holder and husband, Monte; and Twila Lukowiak and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Sydney Brooke Holder, Christian Lukowiak, Nathan Lukowiak; and sister, Jean Beason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Lorell Tooke.

Jerry had wonderful careers protecting and helping others. He served in the United States Air Force and spent many years working at Reese Air Force Base and Lubbock Independent School District. He was a loving husband and an incredible father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

His family would like to thank the UMC Southwest Cancer Treatment Center and the doctors and nurses at University Medical Center for their love and care.

Survivors include her daughters, Amber Garlan of St. Paul, MN, Renee Main of Puyallup, WA; and Heather Villano and husband James of Davidson; son, Pete Guild of Kerrville, TX; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by 1 granddaughter.

Robert Lenoy Stephenson, 75, of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 14, 2011. He was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Texas and resided in Nevada for 50 years. Robert served in the U.S. Navy where he met his lovely future wife Linda Ruth Randolph. They married March 1956. They had four children. When he left the Navy he moved to "the boom town" Las Vegas in 1960, where he got his contractors license and built Bob's Paint and Drywall. Robert was a hard working man who made sure there was always work to be done. Robert/Bob/Pop was a loving and caring family man who would do anything for anyone. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Ruth; and also by his daughter, Melinda Gail; and his only son, Alan Lenoy. Robert is survived by his two daughters, Lorri and Diane; 4 grandsons, Steven, Bobby, Christopher and Michael; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Coy and Sam; and sister, Sharon. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are welcome to come pay their respects between 3 and 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at 5861 Brienholt Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89122.

Right after college she worked for the California State College and University System in the Chancellor's Office as an International Education Councelor.

After her marriage she became a High School French Teacher, but also taught Spanish in the beginning, and taught for 27 years at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, before retiring in June 2012.

We took her, along with one change of clothes and one can of baby formula from the lady and headed home. It took just a few moments to make the exchange. It was a great day in our lives. We now have two children and we have been blessed since.

Services for Linda Litton, 55, of Longview, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Rosewood Park Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Gregg Zackary officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. She died Sunday, Nov. 30, in a Longview hospital.

Visitation is 6-8 today p.m. at the funeral home.

Linda was born June 30, 1948, in McAdoo to James and Jewel Stephenson. She had been a resident of Longview since 1976, moving from Lubbock. She was a clerk/stocker at the Longview Wal-Mart Supercenter. She was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 28 years, Craig Litton of Longview; her children, Jason Litton and Julie Williamson and her husband, Darin, all of Longview; her precious grandson, Shawn Mikel Williamson; brothers and sisters-in-law Jenk and Patty Stephenson of Santa Carita, Calif.; Tom and Terri Stephenson of Ponca City, Okla.; Henry and Kelly Stephenson of New Richmond, Wis. and David and Johnnie Stephenson of Allan; sister Carolyn Stephenson of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.

Rose Hardin Richardson, 65, of Moore, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born May 6, 1944 in Stamford, Texas. In addition to obtaining both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas Tech University, Rose was also a professor of History at Cameson University in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, David Wayne Richardson. Her survivors include a son, Bradley Richardson, and three grandchildren, Justin, Christopher, and Daniel Richardson all of Moore, Oklahoma.
Rose will be laid to rest at the Idalou Cemetery in Idalou, Texas on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home of Lubbock, Texas.
A visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Our beloved Beverly "Bubbles" Robecca Wilhite went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 9, 2018. Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a gathering of friends and family on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, 10 am at the Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A tribute of Bubbles may be found at www.memorialdesigners.net, where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for her family.

Bubbles was born on January 23, 1952 to Barney and Robena (Stephenson) Watts in Spur, TX. Her family moved to Lubbock when she was young and she graduated from Coronado High School. Following graduation she entered Nursing school in Lubbock. On August 16, 1974 she married Jack W. Wilhite, Jr. in Wolfforth. Bubbles worked as an LVN at Lubbock Osteopathic Hospital for many years. She left the hospital and went on to work for several doctors. Bubbles was very talented and enjoyed drawing, art work and country dancing; however her passion was music. She enjoyed playing the guitar and piano with her family as well as with the Maines Brothers and other bands. She spent many years as a Boy Scout leader and working in the Boy Scout office. She also coached baseball and was lovingly known as "Mama 2". Later in life, Bubbles had a second career as a certified Activity Director for several nursing homes, where she and her mother also shared their musical talents. Recently she enjoyed spending as much time as possible at their second home in Spur. She loved being a part of that community to which she felt such a special bond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Toby O'Neal; two grandsons, Mason France, and Jordan Wilhite; and a brother-in-law, Rex Parks.

Bubbles is survived by her husband, Jack W. Wilhite, Jr. of Ropesville; daughter, Chris Ann O'Neal; son, Jason Wilhite and wife Kellye all of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Nickie Bouton, Wyatt Edge, and Jaxton Wilhite; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lou Ann Whitworth and husband Ray of Spring, Texas, and Mickey Parks of Round Rock, Texas; brother, Charles Watts and wife Geri of Victoria, Texas; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Libby had lived in the Crosby and Dickens County area all her life and graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1947. She was a member of the Crosbyton First Baptist Church.

Survivors include; her husband Troy of Crosbyton; a son; Larry Rich of Big Spring; three daughters, Marsha Zobac of Lubbock, Linda Miller of Crosbyton, Tammie Powell of Lewisville; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Randale Ragan, Randy Ragan, Jarod Hall, Scott James, Justin Loven, Josh Bozeman, Noel Taylor and Curtis Cole.

Jeannie, age 66.
A young neighbor got Jeannie hooked on video games, and she became an avid player who amazed her grandchildren and their friends with her skills. Mastering nearly 60 video games was just one of her many talents.
She was just 16 when she married her teenage sweetheart, but she still graduated from Polytechnic High School. And when her husband's job was going to take the couple to Germany, she enrolled in German language classes at Tarrant County Junior College. She became fluent enough to help her grandson with his German homework and translate German documents. She was a pretty good conversationalist. It didn't matter if you had a doctorate in chemistry, she could hang in right there with you. That came in handy during their world travels with Bell Helicopter.
She'd pull out all the stops for Christmas, little lighted villages, boxes and boxes of ornaments, stockings for all the kids and grandkids. For Halloween, she'd do dry ice and let the kids do webbing all over the house. She was just a kid at heart. Her husband remembers a trip to Las Vegas in which she persuaded a waitress to give her dozens of free chocolate-covered strawberries for her upcoming 61st birthday. She was actually 46. When the waitress asked for the secret to her beautiful skin, Mrs. Stinson answered with a straight face, I drink Texas water., and indeed she was a beautiful woman. On her 50th birthday, Mrs. Stinson wore a Peter Pan costume to emphasize that she never wanted to grow old. She'd still flirted with her husband, and he with her just like they were still teenagers. She just had that young spirit, and she instilled it in the people around her.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald Stinson, daughters Cindi Donohoe, Dina Jackson; her son, Ron Stinson, a sister, Darlene Johnson; grandson, Patrick Donohoe, and five other grandchildren.

Sharla Jean Long, of Shallowater, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 7 to 9 PM today, May 1, 2018 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 68 years on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 3 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel. Sharla was born on July 31, 1949 to Bill and Rosalyn (Stephenson) Gilliland in Ft. Worth, TX. On July 12, 2008 she married J.L. Long in Lubbock. Sharla loved to sing and was actively involved in the church choir at Red Bud Baptist Church. She was a prayer warrior and minister of the gospel. Her passion was helping and caring for people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Leland Smith, and two daughters, LaDonna Wiggins, and Linda Ortiz.
Sharla is survived by her loving husband, J. L. Dorothy Jean Barnes Valsame, 71, of Garner, NC died Wednesday, October 19, 2005.

Mrs. Valsame was born June 14, 1934 in Coats, Harnett County, NC, the daughter of the late Howard Benjamin Barnes and Iris Jean (Langdon) Barnes.

She was a 1952 graduate of Coats High School, and a 1956 graduate of East Carolina University. She worked for many years as a teacher or librarian at various schools, including New London High School, Stanly County, NC; Chapel Hill Junior High School, Chapel Hill, NC; Whiteville High School, Whiteville, NC; Rohanen High School, Richmond County, NC; Vance Sixth Grade Center, Wake County, NC; Washington Sixth Grade Center, Raleigh, NC; and Garner Senior High School, Garner, NC. Mrs. Valsame was a member of Averasboro Road Baptist Church.

Dr. James Valsame, 91, of Raleigh, formerly of Garner, NC, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018. He was a resident of Sunrise at North Hills Assisted Living in Raleigh. Dr. Valsame was born on October 15, 1926 in Brevard, NC, the son of Charles and Amanda Lillie (Jackson) Valsame. He spent his formative years in Hendersonville, Etowah, and Canton, NC.

Dr. Valsame was a 1943 graduate of Etowah High School, and a 1950 cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University. He obtained his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1958, and a Doctorate Degree in Education from the same institution in 1961. He was the recipient of a National Science Foundation Scholarship in 1957 and 1958-59.

While at Wake Forest University, he was drafted into the army for service in World War II on February 28, 1945. He performed basic and advanced infantry training at Fort Croft, SC and Camp Rucker, AL, before being sent to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater for fourteen months. He was stationed during that time in Guam and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from military service on December 16, 1946, and resumed his education at Wake Forest upon return home. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

On July 15, 1956, he married the former Dorothy Jean Barnes of Coats, NC, with whom he had three children.

Dr. Valsame had a distinguished career in education. He began his career as a teacher and coach at Coats High School, Coats, NC for four years. This was followed by four years as principal at Millingport High School, Stanly County, NC. He served as principal for one year at Edgewood Elementary School in Whiteville, NC, and also was principal for one year at L. J. Bell Elementary School in Rockingham, NC. In 1961, Dr. Valsame became employed with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh, NC, making his home in nearby Garner. During his time with the department, he served as Coordinator and Supervisor of In-Service Education; Director of the Division of Staff Development; Director of the Division of Certification; Consultant in Accreditation; Special Assistant for Program Quality, Support Services; and Coordinator of Onsite Review, Division of Accreditation. He was also a member of numerous committees on education, and collaborated on various education publications. He was a life member of the National Education Association, North Carolina Association of Educators, and Phi Delta Kappa.

Following his retirement with the State of NC in 1990, Dr. Valsame became actively involved with North Carolina Retired School Personnel, serving as chairman of committees at county, district, and state levels. He served as State Executive Director of that organization from January, 1995-December, 2002.

In addition to his career in education, Dr. Valsame was actively involved in church and community activities. He was one of five founders of Aversboro Road Baptist Church in Garner, NC. He served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Deacon Chairman, Moderator, Director of Sunday School, and Chairman of the Long-Range Planning Committee. He was also actively involved with the Raleigh Baptist Association and NC State Baptist Convention. He served fifteen years on the Town of Garner Adjustment Board, twelve as chairman, and also served five years on Garner School Advisory Board, three as chairman. He received the Garner Outstanding Citizen Award in 1979.

Dr. Valsame became involved with the Lions Club in 1956, serving in Millingport, Whiteville, and Rockingham, NC Lions Clubs. After moving to Garner, NC, he became a member of the Raleigh Host Lions Club for seven years. He transferred membership to the Garner Lions Club in 1969. He served as President of that club in 1974-75, and was recognized as Lion of the Year by his club in 1977-78. He was a Deputy District Governor in 1976-77. In 1978, he was elected District Governor for NC District 31-G, for which he received the 100% District Governor Award. He was a recipient of the John L. Stickley Award from North Carolina Lions, and received numerous other honors from Lions Club International.
