Gearld Keith Patton, Jr. 55, of Van Buren died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in Van Buren.

He was a retired GED instructor for the Job Corps in Cass. Gerald was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the Air Force after 26 years. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, a life time member and commander of the VFW Post in Van Buren, 1st Vice Commander of the Fort Smith American Legion, retired member of the Civil Air Patrol, and was also the secretary of the Vietnam Veterans of America in Fort Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Gerald K. Patton Sr.

He was survived by his wife, Pat of the home; a daughter, Christine Patton of the home; a son, Gerald Scott Patton of the home; his mother, Daisy Patton of Oklahoma City; a sister, Rosemary Patton of Bethany, OK; a brother John Patton of Troy, Ala.; and two nieces.

Funeral services were held at Heritage United Methodist Church with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors.

Born In Lubbock, Texas, on Oct. 6, 1974, the world we all find ourselves in for a short period of time, Joeseph and Donna Stephenson were blessed with the birth of one of God's angels, Kiesha Jo Spears. Kiesha was a blessing to them, and they resided in numerous towns with her father's music career, which seemed to keep them on the move from Texas, Tennessee and finally Colorado. Kiesha was a smart, energetic angel that always seemed to excel in which ever direction the Lord led her.
Nursing as an LPN was her career choice, and she gained her education at the Kansas City School of Nursing. She loved art and enjoyed creating her own masterpieces, enjoyed theology, reading and spending time making differences in the lives of those around her in her own special ways. Her life was blessed with two beautiful daughters and one son who all loved her and were touched and blessed by a mother's unconditional love.
God's angel touched lives all her short life with her caring, compassionate and loving heart. Everyone that crossed paths with her always found themselves touched in some special way that was never forgotten as she had no enemies, only friends she had yet to meet. Several years ago, one of Kiesha's life long dreams came true, and she met the love of her life, and together they chose to make dreams a reality in rural Norfolk.
During this too short a period of time, both of their lives were changed as they had an inseparable love for one another and were both found working and striving for excellence in both their daily lives and, more importantly, their dream come true relationship. Kiesha was blessed during this time with the birth of her first grandchild, which she loved and adored more then life itself for the entire nine months she was part of his little life.
God decide to take his blessed angel home on April 17, 2014, during the early morning hours. Services were held on April 24, 2014, in Omaha and the precious angel was laid to rest in Norfolk. All of Kiesha's loved ones will forever cherish her love, personality and kindness in the rest of their short days here on this earth as she has a special spot in many hearts forever, and all look forward to God reuniting his loved ones.
Kiesha is survived by the love of her life, Kevin Broberg of Norfolk, who will forever have his precious sweetheart in his heart; daughters, Deja Stephenson of Omaha and Jessica and her husband, Jeremy Scott, of Lawrence, Kan.; son Tyler Jorden of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson Alex Scott of Lawrence; parents Joe and Donna Stephenson of rural Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-grandmother Emma Dodd of Colorado Springs; brothers Shannon, Kenny and Donnie, all of Colorado; and sister Brooke Attabury of Bentonville, Ark.
God's precious angel will be missed dearly by many, and lives and hearts will never be the same as she was truly a gift from above for her short 39 years here on this earth. God Bless his precious angel forever.

I married Tristica Brooke Martin (of Woodrow, TX) June 14th 2003 in Lubbock, TX. She is the 2nd daughter (3rd child) of Bob and Marsha Gale Martin of Woodrow. We have a daughter named Kaitlyn Michelle Stanley. She was born March 12th, 2006 in Lubbock, TX. We are also expecting a son in April 2010. As of right now his name will be Thomas Browning Stanley. He will also be born in Lubbock.

Jill married Lonnie Hernandez of Denver City. I'm not sure of the date, sometime in 2005. They're now divorced so I'm not sure that even matters. They have a son named Jaden Rylee Hernandez born October 11th 2005 in Lubbock TX. They also have a daughter named Kaylee Alyssa Hernandez. She was born November 19th 2007 in Lubbock TX.

Alumnus Shares How He Found His Calling in the Personal Financial Planning Program

What began as an interest in an introductory course to financial planning led to a flourishing career for Evan Smith, who graduated from Texas Tech University in 2018 with his Bachelor of Science in Personal Financial Planning (PFP). In fact, Evan says he changed his major five times before he found his calling in the PFP bachelor's degree.

"When I heard about the prestige of the PFP program, I was interested and took an intro course and immediately fell in love with personal financial planning," Evan said. "It was a marriage between my two previous majors, education and finance."Alumni Texas Tech PFP Evan Smith

Evan learned through his intro course what it takes to become, in his words, a fantastic financial advisor, which drove him dig deeper into his studies. This, along with an assignment to create a financial plan for a fake client, solidified his career choice.

"Although it was a fake client, I could feel the love and passion it took to create a financial plan that would improve their way of living today and in the future," Evan said. "Now, I still build financial plans with the same love and passion like I did for my fake client in my intro class. Except this time, I get to see the joy from the client when I present an answer to their questions."

Along with his studies, Evan began an internship with PFG Advisors, LLP \endash a Lubbock-based collaborative financial advisory firm \endash in February 2018. Upon his graduation in December 2018, his internship became a full-time position as a paraplanner and he has since been promoted to Director of Financial Planning. Along with growth in confidence, Evan says he has big dreams for his future.

"My current position has enable me to grow in confidence and gain experience as I strive to reach my full potential," Evan said. "I have dreams and goals of establishing myself as a top financial advisor in the Lubbock community. With patience and perseverance, anything can be accomplished."

Evan thanks the Texas Tech PFP program for laying the foundation to his career and shares heartfelt gratitude for the program's faculty and staff who inspired him along the way.

"The faculty and staff are amazing. I am so thankful that my professors taught with passion and drive, because that passion easily rubs off onto the students," Evan said. You can feel the love that they present with and they want to see you succeed, not just while you are a student, but even in your professional years."

Dear Family & Friends:

The last couple of weeks have been especially busy for our family. For those who do not know , Rex had his left ankle replaced, along with a subtalar fusion, on his foot almost two weeks ago (Wednesday, Nov. 10th). He did extremely well and it looks like the surgery was a big success. He has been needing this for years. Just 18 months back, he had the ankle overhauled but the "advanced osteoarthrosis" was too extensive to avoid a total replacement. Dr. Mark Dalton in Austin did a fantastic job! We return to the doctor's tomorrow (Tues. 23rd) to have the stitches removed and a hard cast put on. If all goes well, we look forward to having the hard cast for 6-8 weeks followed by a stunning custom fitted boot along with therapy for around 3-4 months. This is a long process but we hope in the end all will do well and he can begin walking for the first time in years without excruciating pain.

Our baby, Stacy, turned thirty (30) years old on Nov. 14th. It's hard to believe time is passing so fast. We are extremely proud of her! She is an awesome Christian young lady who has accomplished so much in her short life. Both her husband, Charles, and their 1 year old red headed/curly haired baby boy (Cade) are doing super!

Finally, Mendy and Chris had their baby boy named, Jaxson Bentlee Blevins, yesterday Sunday, Nov. 21st, at 9:09 a.m. His middle name is from both his deceased Great Grandfathers, Arnom Benjamin Parks and Barney Lee Watts. Jaxson weighed in a healthy 9 lbs. 9 oz. and was 21 inches long. His AP-GAR rating was 9.9. I wished all of you could have seen big sister, Mackenzie, waiting to see her little brother for the first time. Words cannot express how excited she was and the expression on her face. It was truly a magical moment in time!

As all can see, our house has been very busy. We are all exhausted but fine. God has blessed us in so many ways. We now looking forward to this coming Thurs. for Thanksgiving. I'm taking the easy was out with Marie Callendars catering turkey and all the trimmings, plus some. Their food is excellent and the pies are fantastic. We have a long standing family tradition of going around the table with each person sharing "their personal blessed experiences" over the past year. What a fabulous family treat we expect this year. Our family wishes each and every one of you the purest of blessings for many years to come!
